Heritage Open Day: Sunday 8th October 2017

On Sunday 8th October 2017 at Civic Trust House we celebrate the music of the eighteenth century with a visit from harper Dr. Fiachra Ó Corragáin. This will be an opportunity to hear one of Cork’s finest musicians perform and talk about this important instrument. The harp is an instrumental constituent of Ireland’s cultural heritage. As the oldest musical tradition in Ireland, and perhaps in Europe, the Irish harping tradition has undergone many transformations and tribulations throughout the centuries. Focusing on the eighteenth century, a period of significant turbulence in the harping tradition, Dr. Ó Corragáin’s talk will address the composers, the music, and the changing status of the Irish harp.

This event has been rescheduled from Heritage Open Day 2017.

The public areas of the house can be viewed 3.30-5pm. Music in the boardroom from 3.30pm, harp talk at 4.30pm
